The doctoral program at Alef University offers rigorous research training in theology and biblical studies, both closely linked to the social sciences. Students conduct their research under the guidance of internationally renowned scholars.
The program addresses the need to train researchers capable of producing rigorous and original knowledge about the Christian theological tradition and the critical interpretation of Scripture. It fosters the integration of biblical research, theological reflection, doctrinal history, and interdisciplinary dialogue (philosophy, humanities, and social sciences). It also trains specialists for university teaching, research in theological centers, and ecclesial and social advising in diverse contexts.
Program Objectives
To train doctors capable of generating original contributions in theological reflection, biblical research or interdisciplinary studies.
Develop an advanced command of exegetical, hermeneutical, and historical-theological methods.
To teach in higher education and provide advice to religious and civil institutions.
Promote the publication of scientific research and interdisciplinary and intercultural debate.
Admission requirements
Master's degree or equivalent in theology, biblical studies, religious studies, philosophy or related disciplines.
Academic record with a GPA of 3.5. In exceptional cases, candidates with a GPA of 3.0 may be admitted, under compliance with certain conditions and a probationary period of no less than six months of study.
Preliminary research proposal (5–7 pages) indicating line of interest, questions, bibliography, guides and methodology.
Two letters of recommendation.
Entrance exam*
Language skills: English level B2; Koine Greek, Hebrew, Latin and others
Languages according to the research project.
* The entrance exam will be administered by a panel of three professors to students coming from
institutions other than Alef, in order to ensure the candidate's academic level. In the case
If deficiencies are found, the committee will prescribe a program with the corresponding leveling courses.
